Did you know that one of the non-academic conditions of enrollment is to have health insurance? If you’re looking for health insurance options, you can sign up for the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP).

UC SHIP is a comprehensive health insurance plan that includes affordable coverage for services both on campus and in the UC Irvine community.

Undergraduate Student Health Insurance Plan Waivers

All students enrolled are required to have health insurance. The cost of the university’s health insurance is billed each term as a component of the all students’ overall fee assessment.

Students who can demonstrate they have adequate or comparable health insurance coverage can apply for a fee waiver to keep their own insurance rather than purchasing coverage from the university. The waivers are processed by the UCI Student Health Center.

Students may be awarded an anticipated USHIP waiver as a placeholder award based on their history of waiving out. At the beginning of each term, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will confirm USHIP waivers. Students who are offered UCI Grant and then waive out of the (USHIP) will have their UCI grant offer reduced by an equivalent amount.
